WORN-OUT BELIEFS. RESTRUCTURING YOUR BELIEF SYSTEM WITH POSITIVISM
The headache-causing beliefs we need to let go of arc known in psychology as conditioned beliefs. Many were picked up in early childhood or in school or in the armed forces or were learned from parents, teachers and other people. Some may have been appropriate in past situations, but the majority are inappropriate to our present lifestyle and they are filling our lives with emotional stress.
These conditioned beliefs based on the past cause us to perceive events in our present lives as stressful. The ultimate way to eliminate the stress that is causing our headaches is to change the way we perceive life events so that we now see them as nonthreatening.
We do that by restructuring our belief system, by letting go of the fear-based beliefs that cause emotional stress, and by adopting new love-based beliefs that liberate us from stress. This type of belief reprogramming can frequently heal chronic headaches in a very short time.
To put cognitive positivism to work, all you need do is to accept, one by one, each of the 29 positive beliefs. Starting with number 1, study it until you have accepted it completely. Don’t go past number 2 until you actually have chosen to forgive everyone whom you believe may have caused you harm at some time.
By the simple act of mentally accepting each positive belief, you will also be releasing its opposite belief, the inappropriate conditioned belief that caused you to perceive events as stressful and that, in turn, caused your headaches.
For example, past events may have conditioned you to believe that the only way to have security is to build a fortress of money. While it may still be prudent to provide for a possible rainy day and for retirement, it is much more appropriate to recognize that life offers an unlimited abundance of love and goodness and that we need no longer continue to look at everything from a position of lack.
