BEDROOM BEHAVIOURS: BEDROOM DECORATING
To help you give a name to your preferred styles, imagine describing your room to a friend who has never seen it. Choose a word or phrase most aptly describing the sense of your bedroom. Perhaps you would say romantic, perhaps bold and dramatic, perhaps practical, perhaps well-ordered and always neat, perhaps cottagey. The word you choose also describes you.
Most people have chosen a combination of two (or even more) styles because:
• you like a mix of styles – it suits your personality
• you have to share the bedroom with a partner whose style is different
• you don’t know about style – you have collected pieces of bedroom furniture from all over and they seem to work
• as long as you have somewhere to sleep, who cares about style?
• your authentic bedroom style represents the personality you express with clothing and that is frequently a combination as well.
You’ve thought of the words to describe your bedroom by now. So read the descriptions below carefully to understand yourself and the big picture. Find a style or two which leap off the page at you. You will also be able to identify the predominant style in the bedrooms of others. You might find it easier to decide what’s not your style. Perhaps your path will be to use a process of elimination.
Remember that no one style is better than another. Be yourself, magnified and maximised. Being true to who you are and expressing it with colour and style in this intimate haven will reveal many truths to you and your partner. Have fun with it.
